Havana, April 10 (RHC)-- President Miguel Díaz-Canel today congratulated Cuba's Forest Ranger Corps on its 65th anniversary and highlighted its work in the defense of the Caribbean nation's natural heritage.

The head of state noted on the social network X that the Corps was born of the Rebel Army and is heir to the Mambo traditions of the largest Antillean Island.

Cuban forest rangers have the mission of guaranteeing the surveillance and protection of the nation's natural resources, within the framework of their competence and in accordance with the policies established by the Ministries of Science, Technology and Environment and Agriculture.

They also coordinate the National System of Protection against Forest Fires, preserving the geographical environment in the interest of Defense, Security and Internal Order.

The organization was created on April 10, 1959 with the approval of Law number 239, known as the "Plan for Reforestation by the Rebel Army", so that at the same time as the Agrarian Reform, the idea of populating Cuba with trees could be planned and carried out, according to a report by the Cuban News Agency.
