Caracas, May 11 (RHC) --The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) expressed this Saturday its support for the people and Government of Cuba in the face of the acquittal of the terrorist who attacked with a weapon set fire to its diplomatic mission in Washington in the early hours of April 30, 2020.

ALBA-TCP recalled in a statement that Alexander Alazo Baró confessed his true intentions behind the attack, which not only included causing material damage, but also the murder of human beings.

The Latin American and Caribbean integration bloc affirmed that what happened was “a clear terrorist action,” underestimated by the complicity of the US authorities, who alleged mental problems and, with it, “the acquittal of such a serious act.”

The Alliance expressed its concern about this situation that becomes a precedent to endorse other similar acts against any diplomatic headquarters in the US capital, with impunity and flagrantly violating the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

The member states of ALBA-TCP stressed their firm support for the people and Government of Cuba in the defense of their sovereignty and in their just claim in the face of this violent event, while reiterating their condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

The island's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed yesterday in a statement its deep concern about the decision of a judge of the Court for the District of Columbia of the United States, who acquitted Alazo on May 1 of the four charges against him for the terrorist attack.

The Havana Foreign Ministry explained that this citizen of Cuban origin has lived in the northern country since 2010 and “fired 32 bullets from a magazine of an AK-47 semi-automatic rifle at the Cuban diplomatic headquarters in Washington.”

He explained that the attack caused extensive material damage to the exterior and interior of the building and endangered the lives of several people who were inside.

Four years after the events and in a criminal process full of opacity, the judge accepted a joint report from the Prosecutor's Office and the terrorist's defense, which presents the perpetrator as someone who, at the time of the events, was not in possession of his mental faculties and, therefore, declares him innocent, the note indicated.
