Casa de las Américas receives an American Jazz orchestra

Havana, May 27 (RHC) The Harvard University Jazz Orchestra, directed by musician Yosvany Terry, will perform this Thursday at the Casa de las Américas in Havana, as announced today by the director of the Cuban institution, Abel Prieto.

In his X profile, Prieto announced that the presentation will be at the Che Guevara room at 6:00 p.m. local time.

The orchestra is directed by Cuban saxophonist Yosvany Terry, who has been in the United States for two decades linked to jazz and Cuban roots, and has also worked as a teacher in various schools in that country.

Terry is the son of the renowned Cuban musician Don Pancho Terry, and in his continuous trips to his native country he has made several recording collaborations and concerts with his father.

The young artists of the Harvard University Jazz Orchestra are not professional musicians, but as part of the Harvard academic program, they can access this type of extracurricular training.

During previous performances in Cuba, they collaborated closely with prestigious Cuban musicians, and on stage they have interpreted great figures of the genre such as Dizzy Gillespie, Chano Pozo, Mario Bauzá, Duke Ellington or George Gershwing.

These visits by the musicians are characterized by artistic exchange with young people and Cuban institutions, with the purpose of promoting the best cultural ties between the two countries through music. (Source: PL)
