Havana, August 6 (RHC)-- The Prime Minister of Cuba, Manuel Marrero, remembered the heroes who lost their lives in extinguishing the fire that occurred two years ago in the industrial zone of the province of Matanzas.

"Cuba honors the firefighters who lost their lives in the tragic incident that occurred in the industrial zone of the western province of Matanzas two years ago, as stated on the social network X, the head of government, who expressed on the platform the deep tribute of the Caribbean nation to those heroes."

On August 5, 2022, an accident occurred due to an electrical discharge in a fuel depot at the Supertanker Base in the city of Matanzas, more than 100 kilometers east of Havana.

The flames – helped to put out with specialized means and forces from Venezuela and Mexico – devastated four crude oil depots, causing 16 deaths and 132 injuries.

Despite the use of the most advanced techniques, Cuba was unable to identify the remains of 14 of the fatal victims due to the high temperatures recorded at the site, estimated at more than one thousand degrees Celsius.

The Fire Museum in the city of Matanzas is the epicenter of the tribute, while since last Friday a tribute to the fallen combatants and civilians in the accident has been held, with the participation of family members, coworkers and officials from the Ministry of the Interior.

Two years after these events, those who lost their lives and the hundreds of fighters and workers who faced the flames are honored.  (Source: Prensa Latina)
