Cuba condemns assassination attempt against Colombian President
Havana, Aug. 9 (RHC) Cuba today condemned the attempted assassination of Colombian President Gustavo Petro, recently denounced by the South American country's Defense Minister, Iván Velásquez.
Through the social network X, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez expressed solidarity and support for the Colombian president.
Velásquez confirmed this Thursday the existence of reports that warned about an alleged plan to make an attempt on the life of President Petro last July 20.
"There was information about this, about an attempt, details that I will not mention", the minister responded to a question from a journalist in this capital, after having participated in an accounting of the sector during the two years of the current government.
Last July 20, the president was absent from the beginning of the military parade commemorating Colombia's independence, arriving two hours later than scheduled.
Velásquez pointed out that the state intelligence services, at all levels, keep the security of the president as a priority in their activities. (Source: PL)
