Havana, October 13 (RHC) – Following a month of calm, the current hurricane season in the Atlantic Ocean has gained momentum with the formation of tropical storms Fay and Gonzalo, according to weather reports.

Fay was a sub-tropical storm on Friday, located to the south of the Bermudas islands and later advanced to that territory with tropical characteristics, while Gonzalo was classified as a tropical storm on Sunday.

Gonzalo was located some 180 kilometers east of Guadeloupe on Sunday evening. The storm had maximum sustained winds of up to 75 kilometers per hour and it was expected to gain in organization and intensity on its route to Puerto Rico after affecting Guadeloupe and nearby islands.

Up to now, seven tropical storms have formed during the current season, which has been considered one of the less active ones over the past 15 years.
