Havana, September 7 (RHC)-- The President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Fernando Gonzalez, recalled the legacy of the Reverend Lucius Walker, Jr. on another anniversary of his passing this Saturday.

On this X account -- Fernando5hICAP @fernando5hicap -- the head of ICAP wrote:  "We remember the Rev. Lucius Walker.  His unwavering commitment to the Cuban Revolution was inspired by his faith as a human rights activist and voice for the poor."   "I have demonstrated that when love for a cause is genuine, all challenges shall be overcome."

On September 7, 2010, the Reverend Lucius Walker, Jr. died in New York.   Lucius Walker was the founder of the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization (IFCO) in 1967.  

IFCO was one of the leading civil rights organizations that fought against racism and discrimination in the United States and for social justice causes around the world 

In 1988, the Reverend Lucius Walker founded Pastors for Peace and led humanitarian caravans to Central America, particularly in support of the Popular Sandinista Revolution in Nicaragua.  

In November 1992, Pastors for Peace came to Cuba for the first time and has been organizing friendshipment caravans for over 30 years now.  

The Reverend Lucius Walker, Jr., died at the age of 80 on this date in 2010 -- 14 years ago today.
