Havana, April 2 (RHC)-- "Cuban universities are fundamental to the country's progress, as they develop the human potential for the scientific and technological community, generating the knowledge and innovation necessary for the growth and development of the largest of the Antilles," emphasized Political Bureau member and Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, speaking earlier this week at the annual report of the Ministry of Higher Education, which was attended by First Secretary of the Party and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz Canel Bermúdez.

The meeting was held to outline priorities for 2025, aimed at strengthening the comprehensive training process for new generations, based on values-based education and emphasizing ideological political work.

As part of the debate, Marrero Cruz acknowledged all the efforts made by teachers, staff, and administrators of higher education in Cuba.

At the Palace of the Revolution, Walter Baluja García, Minister of Higher Education in Cuba, highlighted how his organization has undertaken, based on the results of last year, to achieve a profound transformation by 2025, with effectiveness and creativity, in the current context and in line with the Government Program to correct distortions and relaunch the economy.

"The values and competencies fostered in higher education institutions, the results of their substantive processes, will allow us to continue promoting Cuba's prosperous and sustainable development, while strengthening our independence and sovereignty. Based on the results of this period and the national and international context, we will necessarily have to transform this strategic project."

Other topics such as the preparation and development of cadres, the university-society relationship, and the development of faculty were also highlighted in this Annual Review of the Ministry of Higher Education, which was also attended by Susely Morfa González, member of the Party Central Committee and head of the Department of Social Sector Assistance, and Deputy Prime Minister Eduardo Martínez Díaz.
