Havana, April 9 (RHC) – During a ceremony held in Havana Wednesday in support of Venezuela, Cuban First Vice President Miguel Diaz Canel recalled that the normalization of relations between Cuba and the United States includes a two-stage and complex process.

First comes the reestablishment of diplomatic relations, which requires the withdrawal of Cuba from the US list of terrorism-sponsors and solving the financial situation of the Cuban mission in the U.S., said Diaz-Canel.

Also, US diplomats must change their behavior in Cuba, since they have turned the US Interest Section into a center for political and ideological subversion, in violation of international law and the Vienna Convention, he stressed.

This stage also includes the opening of embassies and the appointment of ambassadors, which would be followed by a permanent high-level dialog.

After that, both countries would move to normalize relations, where the end of the US economic blockade of Cuba will be a decisive factor. This process would also require the return to Cuba of the illegally occupied territory in Guantanamo, the end of subversive activities against Havana and the reparations for decades of economic sanctions.
