Caracas, May 9 (RHC-PL) -- Internationally known as the Cuban Five, the five antiterrorist fighters praised the work of the collaborators of the island and the diplomatic corps serving in Venezuela.

During a meeting at the Cuban embassy in Caracas, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez asserted that the performance of their countrymen in the land of Simon Bolivar solidifies the brotherhood between the two peoples.

Cuba's ambassador to Caracas Rogelio Polanco said that the journey of the Five to Venezuela is closely related to the history of freedom in Latin America.

According to Polanco, in addition to visits to landmarks of the struggle for Venezuelan independence, the anti-terrorists paid honor to the word of the late President Hugo Chavez, who said they would walk free in this country after leaving the U.S. prisons where they were confined.

At the embassy, the Five met with children who accompany their families on different missions. After receiving flowers and drawings, they answered questions from the children.

Antonio Guerrero told them that art was very important during his years of imprisonment. He also urged them to study and learn, because “to be free you need to be educated.”

Fernando Gonzalez said that U.S. hostility toward Cuba provoked international condemnation of his imprisonment, which contributed to their release.

Meanwhile, Gerardo Hernandez told the children that they and their families had the mission to uphold the principles of the Cuban Revolution and the Bolivarian Revolution.
