Cuban Agriculture Improves Productive System

Havana, May 16 (RHC-PL), -- In Havana, Agriculture Minister Gustavo Rodriguez referred on Saturday to the process to improve the sector, including the grouping of companies by productive profiles and the elimination of vertical management structures.

During an exhibition at the Congress of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP), which opened on Saturday, the minister also mentioned the dismissal of state and business functions and the implementation of 17 measures to eliminate obstacles that hinder the work of Basic Units of Cooperative Production (UBPC).

Regarding the cooperatives, Rodriguez also spoke about the actions taken to improve the system of grant land in usufruct, and the strengthening of logistics at the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAG) to distribute and sell supplies and other services.

In his speech, he analyzed 22 problems that were presented in the grassroots, municipal and provincial assemblies of the ANAP during the process prior to the final session of the Congress.

He referred to the high costs of supplies and low milk prices, the non-execution of coffee development, deficient work in livestock and other difficulties for which he mentioned a group of actions as solutions.

The minister also talked about a group of investments being made to benefit production of rice, corn and other cereals, and for coffee, cocoa, livestock, pork and poultry development, among others, including the purchase of machinery and equipment through credits granted by Brazil, as part of the program "More Food" and other funds from Venezuela, China, and Russia.
