Havana, June 6 (RHC)-- The Health Commission of the Latin American Parliament (PARLATINO) praised what they described as Cuba's extraordinary results in the fight against Ebola virus in West Africa. The parliamentary commission is currently holding sessions here in the Cuban capital.

The regional legislative body noted that Cuba was the first country of the world to respond to the international call for help issued by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the Director General of the World Health Organization Margaret Chan, sending a medical brigade to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea -- the countries worst affected by the deadly virus. They said Cuba's response is perfectly in tune with the principle of internationalism that has always characterized the Cuban Revolution.

During the commission's final work session on Saturday, regional parliamentarians reviewed a UN report on the world's current epidemiological situation. Meanwhile, debates of PARLATINO's Commission on Gender Equality, Childhood and Youth focused on sexual abuse.

PARLATINO's sessions in Havana are being attended by 53 legislators, deputies and senators, representing 16 national parliaments in Latin America and the Caribbean.
