Tropical Storm Erika Brings Heavy Rain to Eastern Cuba

Havana, August 29 (RHC)-- Tropical Storm Erika brought heavy rains to the eastern end of Cuba, which has been facing the worst drought in half a century.  Cuban Civil Defense has issued a warning about the risk of floods and landslides. 

At 9 a.m. Saturday morning, the storm was located about 125 kilometers south of Guantanamo, on the island of Cuba, and is moving at a speed of 31 kilometers an hour west northwest. 

According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center, based in Miami, Florida, the storm has weakened to reduce the speed of winds to 65 mph, after passing through Haiti and the Dominican Republic. 

Tropical storm warnings for the northwestern Bahamas remain in effect, along with the Cuban provinces of Ciego de Avila, Camaguey, Las Tunas, Holguin and Guantanamo.
