Havana, September 12 (PL-RHC)-- The Government of Cuba agreed, exceptionally and in recognition of her great contributions to Cuban and universal culture, to name the Grand Theater of Havana, “Alicia Alonso,” due to her outstanding work for Cuban culture.

An agreement of the State Council, published Friday by the newspaper Granma, stated that this decision was granted for her love to the homeland and loyalty to the Cuban Revolution.

The text notes that a sculpture of the sublime ballerina will be placed in the lobby of this cultural institution, and therefore the exhibition hall retains the name of Federico Garcia Lorca.

In the agreement, the State Council praised her long-standing career as founder and director of the National Ballet of Cuba and the decisive contribution to the creation of the Cuban School of Ballet.

It was also taken into account 'the extraordinary national and international prestige, significant contributions to Cuban and world dance and tireless efforts to bring this manifestation of art to all our people. "

To all of this is added the fact that an important part of the pedagogical and dance work of the Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso is closely linked to that theater, which she directed for several years and was also scenario of her greatest success, which have been recorded in the memory of all Cubans.
