Paris, October 13 (RHC)-- Cuba has advocated a culture of peace in a world struck by appalling wars and terrorist actions.

Addressing the Executive Council of the United Nations Educational, scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris, Cuban representative Juan Antonio Fernández denounced what he described as the imposition by world powers of a 'monotonous, unacceptable uniformity' of criteria and behaviors around the world, even through the deliberate destruction of world heritage sites.

The Cuban diplomat stressed that the accelerated climate change is the result of the industrialized world's irrational production and consumption patterns, threating the very survival of the human species on our planet.

He called on UNESCO members to work together towards finding peaceful solutions to current and future conflicts, and also reiterated the need to reform UNESCO and its mandate.
