Mérida, November 7 (RHC)-- Cuban President Raúl Castro and his Mexican counterpart, Enrique Peña Nieto, have agreed to continue strengthening the special ties between both nations.

This is the first official visit of a Cuban president to Mérida, capital of Yucatán State.

Raúl Castro and Peña Nieto presided over a ceremony on Friday in which the top official delegations from Cuba and Mexico signed several cooperation agreements.

The Cuban head of state pointed out the brotherhood between both countries is indestructible because it is based not only on our geographical proximity but also on traditions, cultural and family links as well as solidarity and friendship.

Raul also recognized the role played by the Mexican president in the restoration of links with Cuba, and his support in the struggle to eliminate the United States blockade on Cuba. The Cuban president said he was pleased by the interest of Mexican companies to invest in Cuba and appreciated Mexico's experience in the areas agriculture and tourism.

Peña Nieto highlighted the increased number of agreements between both nations and reiterated that the Mexican government and business representatives wish to be partners in the process of the economic updating of the Caribbean island.
