Cuban Communist Party Holds Provincial Assembly in Havana

Havana, December 7 (RHC)-- The Second Secretary of Cuba's Communist Party, Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, presided over the provincial assembly of the organization in Havana, as part of a process prior to the 7th Congress of the Party.

The assembly focused on the implementation of economic and social guidelines adopted by the Communist Party and the goals of the 1st

Party Conference, which was explained in the report submitted to the assembly by Provincial Party First Secretary Mercedes Lopez Acea.

The report insisted on the need for deeper political activism with emphasis in boosting labor efficiency and control, which was also addressed by delegate Miriam Barban, who said that corruption and irregularities are evidence of the weaknesses in internal control.

Other issues discussed included the production and commercialization of food products, their high prices, as well as difficulties in honoring contracts.

The second secretary of the Communist Party said that in those places where there are problems, it is up to Party members to take action and face the wrongdoings.

Education, culture, the rescue of civil values, and many social and economic topics as well the participation of the youths in contributing to community solutions were also high on the agenda.

In assessing the debates, Cuban First Vice President Miguel Diaz-Canel said that the provincial assembly evaluated a working period with critical, deep, honest and very objective discussions. He said what is on the table are people's main concerns, motivations and aspirations.

Diaz-Canel pointed out that the debate revealed two major working lines, one is the battle in the economic area and the other is the ideological action, which are closely linked.

He recalled that Havana has been the scenario of important historic and cultural scenarios throughout history and that the force of this territory is made up of thousands of women and men that gave the province its life in different labor centers, in the neighborhoods and in the city streets.
