Havana, December 16 (RHC)-- An editorial in Wednesday's edition of Granma newspaper insists that U.S. President Barack Obama has used his executive powers to ease only some of the many restrictions under the blockade policy. The paper points out that the U.S. president can do a lot more to repeal the arbitrary legislation.

Referring to recent statements to Yahoo News by President Obama, in which he defended his government's plans to change U.S. policy towards Cuba, the Granma editorial warns that although some limited steps have been taken in sectors like telecommunications, the blockade remains intact.

Granma, the official newspaper of the Cuban Communist Party, reiterates Cuba's position that the country's sovereignty is non-negotiable and the country won't ever renounce any of its principles nor allow foreign interference in its internal affairs, in exchange for some concessions on the part of the U.S. government or even the repeal of the blockade policy.

The Granma editorial recalls that in the interview granted to Yahoo News, Obama referred to a possible trip to Cuba before the end of his presidential term, although no official invitation has been extended for him to do so.
