Cuban President Raul Castro Meets with Colombian Peace Negotiators

Havana, January 18 (RHC)-- Cuban President Raul Castro met on Sunday evening with peace negotiators, representing the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP).

According to this morning's edition of Granma newspaper, the exchange took place in a constructive environment, marked by the shared interest of continuing the talks until a final peace accord is reached in the shortest possible time.

The two delegations expressed their appreciation to the Cuban president for the role Cuba has played as host and warrantor of the Colombian peace process.

The representatives at the meeting included Humberto de la Calle, head of the Colombian government delegation, Sergio Jaramillo, who serves as High Commissioner for Peace and Colombian Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin.

Participating FARC representatives included lead negotiator Ivan Marquez, FARC commander Pastor Alape and secretariat member Carlos Antonio Lozada.

President Raul Castro was accompanied by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez and Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra, as well as by the head of the warrantor delegation, Rodolfo Benitez.
