Cuban First Vice President Miguel Diaz-Canel Meets with Belorussian President Lukashenko in Minsk

Minsk, May 24 (RHC)-- Belorussian President Alexander Lukashenko said that his country wants to increase collaboration with Cuba in agriculture and other economic sectors.  The Belorussian president spoke with reporters following a meeting with the First Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers Miguel Diaz-Canel.

Lukashenko said that during the one-hour conversation held at the Palace of Independence, they talked about the new openings in the Cuban economy for investment and the good prospects existing for cooperation.

Alexander Lukashenko reiterated an invitation for Cuban President Raul Castro to visit the Central European nation.  The Bielorussian president wished the best of health to Fidel Castro, whom he called a good friend. He said he looks forwards to meeting with Fidel the next time he travels to Havana and discuss with him international issues.

Cuban Vice President Miguel Diaz-Canel, for his part, said his visit to Belarus was aimed at strengthening the links between the two nations.

He reiterated Cuba's commitment to maintaining a political dialogue at the highest level and strengthening economic ties, particularly in the biotechnology field, as well as in the promotion of exports of goods and services from the island to Belarus.
