Santa Cruz de Tenerife, May 26 (RHC)-- On Wednesday, the regional legislature of the Spanish autonomous community of the Canary Islands has passed a resolution, urging the United States to put an end to its nearly 6 decades-old blockade of Cuba.

In the text, the Canarian Parliament calls on the autonomous government to inform the Spanish government properly in order for it to promote and defend the anti-blockade position internationally.

The resolution passed by the Canarian Parliament is very similar to those approved last April by the regional legislatures of two other autonomous communities of Spain --Galicia and the Basque Country.

In it, members of the Canarian parliament praise the role being played by Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, towards repealing the so-called EU 'common position' on Cuba.

In a related news story, also on Wednesday, the Bolivian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba in Cochabamba, demanded the end of Washington's blockade policy towards Cuba, as well as the return of the portion of Cuban territory illegally occupied by the U.S. Naval Base in Guantánamo and the end to Washington's interference in Cuban internal affairs.
