Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the US House speaker of Representatives, warned that official investigations are being conducted to bring President Donald Trump to trial for allegedly violating the US Constitution and also endangering the National Security of the United States.

These charges were sparked by a phone call made by Trump last July to his Ukrainian counterpart, Vladimir Zelensky, to whom he pressured to investigate the prospective Democratic Presidential candidate in the next US general elections, Joe Biden, and his son, Hunter, for alleged corruption.

Hunter was a high executive in the Burisma gas company, headquartered in the Ukraine. The company was subjected to an investigation for alleged misconduct. However, in 2016 the then Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko fired his Attorney General and fully stopped the legal process.

Allegedly, this move took place at the request of Joe Biden personally, who at the time was President Barak Obama's vice president.

Trump put pressure on the Ukrainian official to reopen the investigation and consequently ruin the possibilities of Joe Biden becoming the Democratic Presidential candidate in the 2020 US presidential election.

According to Trump's estimates, this move would remove a heavyweight rival from the contest.

At first, Washington sources said that Trump had put pressure on his Ukrainian counterpart by threatening to cut US military aid to that Eastern European country.

Following the publication of this threat, Trump's opponents could not find hard evidence of pressures on Biden, but they gathered facts about Trump's efforts to reopen the investigation on Biden and his son, which would include the participation of the US Attorney General.

Nancy Pelosi said that the publication of the contents of the White House phone call confirms that Trump is violating national security, undermining the integrity of the electoral process and also the integrity of his post.

There are no conditions right now for the progress of a Presidential impeachment, and the two previous such processes, against Presidents Andrew Johnson, in in 1868 and Bill Clinton, in 1999, were not successful in removing them from the Presidency.

Richard Nixon was another candidate for an impeachment process, but he renounced before its start.

The possibilities of a successful impeachment process against Trump will diminish as the elections get closer. However, it all could be part of that old Roman popular appeasement formula to keep the masses appeased: Bread and circuses!
