Israel against the UN
by Guillermo Alvarado
Driven by his arrogance, the Prime Minister of the Zionist State of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has opened a new chapter in the dangerous path of war in the Middle East by authorizing attacks against United Nations personnel in Lebanon.
This follows Tel Aviv's absurd decision to declare none other than the UN Secretary-General himself, António Guterres, "persona non grata". This is an unprecedented and unique act in the history of the world's highest body.
According to the latest news from the region, Israeli army tanks broke down the door and entered a barracks of the UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL), drawing criticism even from some of its European allies.
For example, the Italian Prime Minister, the ultra-right-wing Giorgia Meloni, a staunch defender of Israel's attacks against the defenseless Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip, expressed her displeasure at this incursion.
It so happens that Italy is the European country with the largest number of troops in UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL), around 10,000.
This contingent has also fallen victim to the Zionist bombardments on southern Lebanon, and at least five people have been wounded so far.
Netanyahu issued a stern warning about the physical integrity of the military when he accused them of serving as "human shields" for Hezbollah fighters and demanded that the UN withdraw them from the area, as if he had sufficient authority to give orders to the organization.
So far, some 40 countries have expressed their full support for the maintenance of UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL), even though the mission's objective of securing peace and preventing the militarization of the area has been virtually shattered by the Israeli ground attacks.
Some European Union countries and the United States itself have criticized Netanyahu's actions, but this counts for nothing as long as the financial and military support that fuels the war is maintained.
Meanwhile, Tel Aviv keeps resorting to the tired argument that criticism is a sign of "anti-Semitism", a completely false argument because the Jewish people is one thing and the political and ideological system that governs it, Zionism, is another, completely different thing.
The point is that the war scenario is getting worse every day, despite the serious consequences of a war in which new players and dangers are being added for the whole world.
