Mexico arrived at the two-day G20 summit in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro with concrete proposals to fight poverty, hunger and inequality in the world.
In her first trip abroad since assuming the presidency last October 1, Claudia Sheinbaum put on the table her proposal to reduce military spending in order to redirect those funds to the fight against poverty, which today affects more than ONE BILLION people on the planet.
A figure that shows that the world is far from putting an end to this scourge by 2030, one of the Sustainable Development Goals, a commitment of the international community adopted in September 2015 at a historic UN summit.
Sheinbaum emphasized that instead of sowing wars, it is necessary to sow life and peace to improve the quality of people's lives.
For this reason, Mexico's first female president will present the social programs for the most vulnerable sectors promoted by her government and that of her predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to the leaders of the world's major economies.
Thus, the Sembrado Vida initiative, launched by the previous government and continued by the current administration, will reach Rio de Janeiro to fight rural poverty and environmental degradation.
Sheinbaum pointed out that this program reduces poverty, generates local and regional development, and reduces migration by helping to improve the living conditions of rural dwellers, where the highest rates of poverty and inequality are generally found.
Since its implementation in Mexican territory, it has allowed the planting of millions of trees, an essential aspect in the fight against global warming, and has led to an increase in the national production of coffee and cocoa, according to the authorities.
The President also said that at the G20 Summit, she will advocate for women's rights and their empowerment, which is also essential to advance the development of nations.
In favor of peace, sustainable development and the well-being of all citizens are the proposals that the President of Mexico, a country that has worked for the benefit of Mexicans, will present to world leaders.
