Danza Contemporánea de Cuba or the Cuban Contemporary Danza Ensemble is presenting two world premieres at Havana’s Grand Theater Alicia Alonso this weekend.

Marking the 90th birthday of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, the company is premiering Las paredes se van, by Julio César Iglesias, a look at freedom and the search for goals. Iglesias, who’s been working as a choreographer and dancer in Germany and the Netherlands, is this time bringing to his home country what’s occurring on European stages in terms of modern dance and choreography.

The other premier is by company dancer, Norge Cedeño, who’s presenting DCCrama, in which he deconstrues formulas about dance.  The piece Reversible, by Belgian-Colombian-English choreographer, Annabelle López Ochoa, is also included in this weekend’s program. This short summer season is also celebrating the company’s 57th anniversary in September.
