With a program including pieces of his own and other composes, the musicians is also commemorating the entrance in Havana of the Liberty Caravan, headed by Castro in 1959.
From January 2-8, 1959, the victorious Rebel Army troops, following the Triumph of the Revolution, began a more than one thousand kilometer tour of the country from Santiago de Cuba to the Cuban capital in which the people welcomed them with joy.
The Nuestro Tiempo Chamber Orchestra, directed by Maestro Enrique Pérez Mesa, and other guests, are scheduled to accompany Fernández in some of his best known pieces, such as Tema de Amor (Love Theme) and Tema de la Victoria (Victory Theme) of the popopuar TV show La Gran Rebelión. The program also includes La Bella Cubana by José White, as well as Tema de la Soledad (Solitud Theme), Conga y Zapateo por derecho of the suite for two pianos by Frank Fernández. The concert will be held at the Minor Basilica of the Saint Francis of Assisi Convent concert hall in Old Havana.
Fernández is considered the father of the Cuban pianos school, since his students have won 27 international awards without studying in foreign music schools. Critics from various continents have praised the virtuosity of the Cuban pianist graduated with great honors at the famous Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. He is the only Cuban presented with the Pushkin Medal directed granted by the President of Rusia, Vladímir Putin. With more than 200 awards, Fernández has earned prestige as a versatile musician who has composed 650 pieces for different formats and in different styles.
