Havana, January 9 (RHC)-- The 28th International Book Fair scheduled to be held from February 7th to 17th here in Havana, will be attended by representatives from 43 countries across five continents, organizers announced.
Sonia Almaguer, director of the Cuban Book Institute, confirmed on Tuesday in a press conference that the guest country of honor will be the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria and will be dedicated to Cuban writer Eduardo Heras Leon, winner of the National Prize for Literature (2014).
Out of the 43 countries confirmed so far, Algeria, Argentina, Mexico, the United States and Chile will be the most represented. The general roster includes professionals from 23 Latin American nations; as well as intellectuals from all over the world.
According to Almaguer, 120 exhibitors from some twenty countries, 354 authors and literary professionals are expected to attend.
This year’s edition of the Fair will be dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution and to the 500th anniversary of the foundation of Havana.
Authors, editors, translators, designers, illustrators, distributors and the general public will flood different areas across the capital including the mains site at the San Carlos de la Cabaña Fortress, as well as the Pabellon Cuba, Casa de ALBA, Jose Marti National Library, the University of Havana and the Dulce Maria Loynaz Center.
There will be activities for experts, intellectuals, children and book lovers of all ages according to the director of the fair’s literary program, Edel Morales, with special events dedicated to Heras Leon, whose works will also be on sale.
Meanwhile, President of the Cuban Book Institute, Juan Rodriguez Cabrera, reported that the event will travel to most of the country’s other provinces before concluding on April 14th in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba.
