Havana, October 13 (RHC) -- Singer Roi Casal, from Spain’s autonomous region of Galicia, returns to the Cuban capital on October 16 with the musical show ‘Son Galego, Son Cubano'. The performance will take place at Havana’s Grand Theater Alicia Alonso, following two memorable concerts on the same stage in May, 2016. The Havana stage is located in what is known as the historical building of Centro Gallego or Galician Center.

‘Son Galego, Son Cubano’ has been seen by more than 100 000 spectators from the time of its premier in Cuba and the CD named after the show won the International Prize in Cubadisco 2014, considered the Caribbean country’s music awards festival. The initiative, which includes compositions by Neira Vilas, a poet with whom Roi Casal worked together until his death in November 2015, is a tribute to Vilas and to Galician emigration in Cuba, where the writer lived for 31 years.

Dedicated to Havana on the 500 anniversary of its establishment, the October 16 concert will have pianist Miguel Núñez and trumpet player Roberto García as guests. According to Granma newspaper, Project Manager Yurietta Bonne said that Roi Casal is traveling for the first time with a group of Galician followers who will be on an interesting tour of the most emblematic cultural places in Havana with a Galician imprint.

The program, which consists of music, film and literature, includes the unveiling of a monolith of the Camino de Santiago (The Path of Santiago) in Havana’s Central Square by Galician authorities and the completion of the documentary ‘Son Galego, son cubano’ by journalist and director Natasha Vázquez, who since 2015 has been shooting images and recording sounds of the different stagings of the show, curiosities related to the production process, and the relations between Cuba and Galicia. The audiovisual ‘Son Galego, Son Cubano’ should be ready for its premiere in early 2020, and according to its producers, will be screened simultaneously in Galicia and the Caribbean island.
