The remains of Cuban vedette Rosita Fornés will be laid to rest in Cuba, fulfilling the artist’s last wish, the Cuban Ministry of Culture said in a communique.
The text says that after meeting specific requirements in the current circumstances, the remains of the renowned artist will be repatriated from the United States to Cuba, where an homage-paying ceremony will be organized.
The Ministry of Culture said Rosita’s death is a great loss for Cuban Culture. She successfully developed a versatile career that encompassed cinema, the theater, radio, television and cabaret.
Loved and admired by millions of Cubans, anywhere in the world, Rosita Fornés received all of Cuba’s highest cultural awards, including the Félix Varela, Ana Betancourt and Lázaro Peña Orders and the Alejo Carpentier Medal.
She was granted Cuba’s National Prizes in Theater (2001), Television (2003) and Music (2005).
Upon learning the sad news of Rosita’s death in the early morning hours on June 10th, creators, entities and fans all over the world have sent messages of condolence to the artist’s family and Friends, highlighting the indelible imprint she lives on Cuban culture and her people.
