Havana, January 14 (RHC)-- The organizing committee of the Salsa Festival announced that the sixth edition of the event, originally set for February 23rd through the 28th, has been postponed due to the complex epidemiological situation in Cuba right now, generated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The president of the organizing committee, Cuban musician Maykel Blanco --leader of the orchestra Maykel Blanco y su Salsa Mayor-- noted that during the 5th edition, held in February 2020, more than 65 thousand people, Cubans and foreigners alike, attended the live concerts and recitals by Cuban and foreign DJs and orchestras, exponents of the music genre.

The 2020 edition of the Salsa Festival brought together 19 Cuban salsa orchestras and soloists for six days, including Adalberto Alvarez y su Son, Alain Perez, Haila Maria Mompie, Los Van Van, Alexander Abreu y Havana D'Primera, Bamboleo, El Niño y la Verdad and Maykel Blanco y su Salsa Mayor, among others.

The closing concert of the 5th Salsa Festival was given by none other than Puerto Rican singer Victor Manuelle, at the Jose Antonio Echeverria recreational complex's Club 500 --the main venue of the annual festival.

As every year, the 2020 edition featured dance workshops on salsa and other Cuban music genres and visits to places of interest, such as recording studios and conservatories, among other attractions.

The Salsa Festival is sponsored by Havana’s Carnival Enterprise and Cultural Office, the artistic and literary promotions company Artex, Cuba’s largest record company –EGREM-, and the Cuban Music Institute.
