Havana, March 2 (RHC)-- Singer-songwriter Raúl Torres has released a new tune entitled “Patria o Muerte por la Vida” (Homeland or Death for Life), a patriotic song in response to a group of musicians of Cuban origin, who have used their art and their voice to attack their homeland.

In statements to Cuban press, Raúl Torres said the new song responds to those who now attack the sacred values defended and promoted by socialist Cuba over 60 years of Revolution.

“The song reflects the indignation of millions of Cubans, those of us who defend our country’s sovereignty, independence, and the revolutionary, socialist principles stipulated in our Constitution against those who attack their homeland and people for money,” said Torres.

He noted that several artists have come out in defense of the Revolution and against those who attack their homeland. He recalled the actions on February 24th last by young and accomplished artists, representatives of the most diverse artistic disciplines, in homage to National Hero José Martí and Cuban heroes and martyrs on the 126th anniversary of the resumption of the Cuban war against Spanish colonialism back in 1895, what Martí called the ‘Necessary War’ for Cuba’s independence.

Singer-songwriter Raúl Torres is the author of iconic patriotic tunes like ‘El regreso del amigo’ and ‘Cabalgando con Fidel’, dedicated to Latin American leaders, the late Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro, respectively.

More recently, he released the tune ‘Desbloquéame’ (Unblock me) -- a protest song against Washington’s six-decades-old blockade policy on Cuba, particularly against the countless coercive measures adopted by the former US administration of Donald Trump to further tighten the economic siege against the neighboring Caribbean state in times of the Covid-19 pandemic.
