Cuba's Espiral Duo

Havana, September 7 (RHC)-- Young Cuban musicians Tania Haase and Rodrigo García Ameneiro, who form the violin-piano duo Espiral, have been awarded the second prize in Chamber Music at the 12th Medici International Music Competition in the Master category.

García Ameneiro studied piano in Havana’s Manuel Saumell Music School under the guidance of maestra Hortensia Upman and at the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory under the tutelage of pianist Aldo López-Gavilán.

Tania Haase studied violin also at Manuel Saumell and later, at Amadeo Roldán, under Cuban violinists and professors Africa Rodriguez, Ala Tarán and Alfredo Muñoz.

Both, Tania and Rodrigo are currently studying at Cuba’s Instituto Superior de Arte, ISA, in Havana.  They are members of ‘Únete’ --the United Nations network of artists in favor of non-violence against women and girls.

Created in 2014, Espiral Duo has won several other Cuban and foreign prizes, notably the first prize at the 2019 International Grand Prize Virtuoso Music Competition in Amsterdam.

The Medici International Music Competition is an online music competition for musicians around the world. Open to all nationalities and ages in piano, strings, wind, vocal and chamber music, each discipline was divided into different age categories.

Participants were required to submit video recording materials for the audition. The final selection of winners was based solely on the same recordings submitted. Multiple winners were chosen in each age category.

Organizers say the purpose of the Medici International Music Competition is to discover both young talents and exceptional performers who have already reached a professional level, and to be a part of their journey towards international careers.
