Roma, Oct. 11 (RHC) -- An exhibition by avant-garde Cuban painter, the late Víctor Manuel was inaugurated in Palazzo della Cancellería, in Rome, Italy, on occasion of Cuban Culture Day –celebrated every year on October 20th.

The exhibition includes such memorable works as 'Mujer sentada’ (1927), 'Cabeza' (1928) and 'Paisaje' (1936).

It is organized by the Cuban embassy to the Holy See and the Pontifical Council for Culture, with support from the Bettini and Co. Gallery and its general director Eriberto Bettini, who serves also a curator of the exhibition.

Representing the president of the Pontifical Council for Culture, Cardenal Gianfranco Ravasi, Monsignor Carlos Azevedo participated in the inauguration, accompanied by priest Benjamín Aguirre.

Cuban ambassador to the Holy See, René Juan Mujica, highlighted that Víctor Manuel is one of the greatest all-time Cuban painters. The Cuban diplomat explained that in his paintings Víctor Manuel combined European concepts of Modern art with native Primitivism to create a distinctly Cuban aesthetic.

He lamented that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was impossible to prepare a larger exhibition.
