Buenos Aires, June 2 (RHC)-- The Union of Women with Cuba in Argentina expressed Thursday its support for Cuban poet Nancy Morejon, in the face of aggressions by extreme right-wing groups.

We repudiate the boycott against Morejón's participation as honorary president in the Poetry Market in Paris, France, an event that will take place from June 7 to 11, according to a communiqué issued by the organization.

We stand in solidarity not only with the outstanding intellectual, but also with all artists who are the target of violent actions by fascist elements who oppose the government of the island and its revolutionary project, it adds.

The actions of anti-Cuban groups provoked the Mercado to withdraw that status from the renowned essayist and playwright, winner of the 2001 National Literature Prize and recipient of several awards from other countries, among them the Insignias de Oficial de la Orden al Mérito de la República de Francia (Officer's Insignia of the Order of Merit of the Republic of France).

Last week, the Cuban duo Buena Fe faced aggressions from individuals who tried to prevent their concerts in Spain.

In a communiqué, the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs specified that these are isolated events, carried out by minority groups that represent retrograde forces of neo-fascist ideology and receive copious financial resources from organizations at the service of imperialism.

"These actions have the clear purpose of denigrating Cuban culture and its artists, blurring the historical a\\nd patriotic memory of the Cuban people and its cultural identity, and destroying the Revolution," the statement of the Cuban Foreign Ministry emphasized.
