Jewels of Ecuador Concert

Havana, July 12 (RHC) Next Wednesday, 17 notable soloists will take the stage of the Ignacio Cervantes Hall of the Palacio de los Matrimonios in Havana to delight the audience with symphonies and Ecuadorian traditions in the recital Joyas de Ecuador (Jewels of Ecuador).

The event will pay tribute to composers and perform melodies of great transcendence for the culture of that country, with emphasis on a genre that dwells in the soul of that people: the Ecuadorian pasillo, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2021.

Cultivated in all Ecuadorian regions, especially in urban spaces, the pasillo articulates diverse knowledge, skills and practices, while its nuances towards the waltz (in the coastal region) or the yaraví (in the inter-Andean alley) show the cultural diversity of that nation.

In its development it was inspired by the sensibility of the cholo costeño, the montuvio and the citadino; the most representative lyrics of the genre have a deep lyrical charge, in the beginning many were poems and later became songs.

Under the artistic direction and production of Helson Hernández, the guitar player Mabel González, the violinist Elizabeth Yodú in front of her string quintet, the pianists Vilma Garriga and Rosa García Oropesa will join in a song to Ecuador.

In addition to lyric singers Giselle Polanco (mezzo-soprano), Tiffany Hernández (soprano), Jorge Luis Guzmán and César Vázquez (tenors).

The performers will raise their voices to perform well-known pieces by Julio Jaramillo, nicknamed the Nightingale of America; Aparicio Córdoba, Lauro Dávila, Jorge Araujo, Carlos Rubirá Infantes, Gerardo Guevara, among many other authors."Joyas de Ecuador" is sponsored by the Embassy of Ecuador in Cuba and the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana.
