The 12th Art Biennial will kick off in the Cuban Capital from May 22n to June 22nd, providing a special space for the most renovating art in the world.

Since its establishment in 1984, the art gathering has been able to create spaces in the Cuban capital to host least privileged, not so well known and less visible projects, presenting for the first time new names and the arts of young artists, both from the island and abroad, leaving an imprint in contemporary art, critics, researches, art fans and people in general.

The biennial has also broadened the horizons for the work of important international artists, such as Marina Abramovic, Hermann Nitsch, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov. The town of Casablanca, Trillo Park, the neighborhood of Colón, the municipalities of Central and Old Havana and Playa with its Arts University and the studio of Cuban artist, Alexis Leyva Machado, Kcho, in el Romerillo, are some of the spaces opened for art in the community.

Casablanca will include participatory works, sculptures, installations, projections and community work. More than 300 artists are set to gather in Havana, including Germany’s Gregor Schneider, Michelangelo Pistoletto, one of the most important cultivators of Arte Povera (Poor Art) in Italy and a project in Havana’s Cuba Pavillion Exhibit Halls, including artists from Cuba and the United States.
