The animated film Meñique by Ernesto Padrón and the movie Dressed as a Bride by Marilyn Solaya have been chosen to represent Cuba at the Ariel and Goya Awards respectively.

Meñique was selected for being an excellent cinematographic adaptation of a short story version published by Cuban National hero José Martí at La Edad de Oro magazine. Meanwhile, Dressed as a Bride, is a movie dealing with a subject not frequently dealt with by the national film industry.

The selection commission was made up of director Jorge Luis Sánchez, actress Eslinda Núñez, the Cuban Film Institute’s Vice-President for International Relations, Susana Molina, producer Frank Cabrera and director Patricia Ramos, who also decided not to choose any Cuban movie to the Oscar Award competition.
