Havana residents celebrate Christmas and New Year with Music

Arts will be brought to the Havana neighborhoods with concerts by renowned Cuban musicians and bands, such as Omara Portuondo, Habana de Primera, Pupy y los que son son, Son del Nene, Timbalaye, Clave y Guaguancó and others.

Cuba Va, as the festival has been called, includes highlights, such as the A Prado y Neptuno concert, on the famous corner where the renowned music and dance genre Cha Cha Cha was created. A Prado y Neptuno will feature the performance of the Miguel Failde orchestra on December 26th; and the concert Omara de Cuba, on January 3rd, at the Saint Francis of Assisi Square, where the so called Diva of the Buena Vista Social Club Project is set to sing with the National Symphony and young guests Luna Manzanares and Bárbara Llanes. Both performances will be televised by the TV Channel Cubavisión as of 9 p.m.

A special performance will be held at the Anti-imperialist Tribune on January 1st to celebrate the victory of the Cuban Revolution occurred the same date in 1959, featuring the performances of popular Cuban bands, such as Habana de Primera, Tania Pantoja and Pupy y los que Son Son.

The main venues for the rest of the concerts which will include the performances of Adrián Berazaín, Raúl Torres, Yoyo Ibarra, and others, will be at Reparto Eléctrico in the municipality of Arroyo Naranjo, Casa Blanca in Regla municipality, la Plaza Roja in Diez de Octubre, 180 y final in the neighborhood of Alamar; and in Trillo Plaza in Central Havana, La Herradura in San Miguel del Padrón, San Agustín in La Lisa and Santiago de las Vegas in the municipality of Boyeros.

Cuba Va has been organized by the Cuban Culture Ministry and other local government agencies for the second time this year.
