The Cuban National Ballet Company, directed by ballet legend, Alicia Alonso, will dance the famous classic Don Quixote in Canada in May.

The dance group’s performances will be May 4/7 at La Place des Arts of Montreal, the largest art and cultural complex in the northern country. The tour will bring well-known Cuban dancers, such as Viengsay Valdés, Anette Delgado, Sadaise Arencibia and Dani Hernández, along with talented young dancers and rising stars, such as Patricio Revé, Rafael Quenedit, Adrián Masvidal and Raúl Abreu.

Choreographed by Alicia Alonso, Martha García and Marielena Llorente after Marius Petipa and Alexander Gorsky, the ballet classic is based on Don Quijote de la Mancha by Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra, considered one of the most important universal literary works. Along with Fernando and Alberto, Alicia Alonso founded the Cuban National Ballet Company, one of the world’s most prestigious such dance ensembles. The world premiere of Don Quixote took place at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow on December 26th, 1869, inspired in the world known novel, while the Cuban version was premiered at Havana’s Grand Theater in the summer 1988.
