Bridgetown, October 29 (RHC)-- The Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment of Barbados, Dwight Sutherland, said his country was interested in two more disciplines in the sports exchange with Cuba.

The Minister spoke by telephone with the Cuban Ambassador in Barbados, Sergio Jorge Pastrana, to whom he highlighted the historical ties in areas such as culture, health, education and sports.

Sutherland told the Cuban diplomat that cooperation between the two Caribbean nations in eight sports could be further developed -- mentioning cricket and tennis.

He also emphasized that sports is one of the pillars that his country's government intends to use to develop its youth, and to consider the role it can play in the development of society.

For his part, Pastrana assured the commitment of the relationship with Barbados and extended an invitation to the minister to visit the University of Sports of Cuba, especially its biomechanics division and the sports psychology laboratory.

Both nations established diplomatic relations in December 1972, and since then the solidarity links are characterized by the principles of cooperation, integration and social justice.
