Cuban baseball mourns the death of Commissioner Ernesto Reynoso

Havana, April 27 (RHC)-- Cuban baseball is mourning the death Tuesday of Ernesto Reynoso Piñeiro, who had served as national baseball commissioner since September 2019, due to COVID-19.   Complications derived from COVID-19 caused his unfortunate demise, despite the efforts made by the medical team of the Doctor Luis Díaz Soto Military Hospital, in Havana.

During the period in which he served at the head of our national sport, Reynoso, 56 years of age, stood out for his effort, dedication, impetus and transparency to carry out a mission that we already know has a high social and cultural significance for the nation.

To materialize the fulfillment of the new strategy for the development of Cuban baseball; to expand and improve the contracting process abroad; to make communication with the press more fluid; to support the declaration of baseball as cultural patrimony of the nation and to bring the 60th National Series to a successful conclusion are among his unquestionable contributions during almost 20 months of work.

In a special way, the comrade did not rest a single day until achieving the culmination of the 60th Series, confronted from the beginning to the attacks of the pandemic that, by those traps of destiny, snatched his life when he had plenty of motivations, ideas, dreams and always revolutionary projects.

When we think of Ernesto, from the ranks of sports, we will remember the humble and firm man who came to "pitch with a complicated game and got the three outs". We will evoke his depth, courage and Cubanness.  We will narrate his days with joy and gratitude, and with the conviction that he would have contributed much more to the cause.

In this moment of extreme sorrow, we also think of the people of the Special Municipality Isla de la Juventud, where he served as First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba until June 2019, obtaining recognition for the impetus given to economic, political and social issues.

Since those days, and in keeping with his training as a graduate in Physical Culture and Sports, Ernesto supported the development of sports, especially his beloved Pirates of the Island.

The main authorities of Inder and the Cuban Olympic Committee express their condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
