A Cuban on the board of the Panamerican Taekwondo Union

Havana, October 11 (RHC/JIT)-- Cuban Ivan Fernandez Quiros was elected member of the executive council of the Pan American Taekwondo Union (Patu), the entity that governs the destiny of the sport in the Americas.

President of the Cuban federation, Fernandez will represent the Caribbean in the continental entity in the period 2021-2025. "I am very happy. My main objective is to defend the interests of our geographical area to develop the sport," the also Seventh Dan expressed to JIT.

Along with Fernandez, Choung Pham (United States) for North America and Alberto Cavalcante Maciel Junior (Brazil) for South America are members of the council.

On Saturday, the Mexican Juan Manuel López Delgado was elected as the maximum leader of the Patu, who overcame the Korean-American Inseon Kim by a wide majority.

Lopez turned the Mexican Taekwondo Federation into the best on the planet, which gave credit and confidence to his peers to place him at the head of this continental union, highlighted www.MasTdk.com.

"My main intention is to create a solid team to recover the representation of the Pan American Taekwondo Union as a competitive, strong and structured sports organization. Our focus will be to make taekwondo accessible to all national associations in our beloved region."

This is what the new president told MasTdk.com after selecting the Chilean Mario Mandel as secretary general of the new Patu administration and the Aztec and 1996 Pan American medalist Alina Idalia Garza Herrera as treasurer.

Wayne Mitchell (Canada) for the North American region, Wilmar Alvarado (Costa Rica) for Central America, Elvin Landrau (Puerto Rico) for the Caribbean and Ricardo Torres (Argentina) for South America will serve as vice presidents for the next five years.

In addition to them, María Borello (Guatemala) was elevated to vice-president after being the woman with the most votes among the candidates for the council, and López also took the opportunity to appoint Alejandro Mansilla (Bolivia) and Marilu De Veer (Aruba) as council members. His team will be completed in the coming days.

The voting was successfully conducted by the interim management committee and was carried out through the Lumi voting system, the same used by the International Olympic Committee. Members of the national federations entitled to vote and the council were virtually present at the electoral assembly. 

This Monday it will be the turn of the World Taekwondo Federation to hold its election.
