Havana, June 11 (RHC)-- The Cuban national team will dispute today the bronze medal in the Under-15 Baseball World Baseball Championship, after forfeiting the semifinal round game, held against the host team of Venezuela.
In the challenge held at the José Bernardo Pérez stadium in the city of Valencia, the Cuban team had beaten the local team 9-7, but the use of a pitcher disqualified due to the number of pitches caused the annulment of the result and the awarding of the victory to the Venezuelan team.
Venezuela will compete for the golden medal next Sunday against Panama, which defeated Puerto Rico the day before in the other semifinal duel by a close margin of 12-11.
After leading the qualifying round with a 4-1 record, Cuba will now have to settle for the bronze medal against the Puerto Rican team in a match scheduled for Saturday.
