Presidents of Cuban and U.S. Olympic Committees with Thomas Bach

Havana, July 14 (PL) - The Olympic Committees of Cuba and the United States are committed to strengthening cooperation in the sports and scientific fields and to that end held a fruitful dialogue.

According to the weekly Jit in its digital edition, the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), German Thomas Bach, confirmed the meeting in the latest issue of the publication belonging to the world governing body of sport, Actualidad Olímpica.

The IOC publication, quoted by Jit, assured that the head of the Cuban Olympic Committee, Roberto León Richards, and his US counterpart, Susanne Lyons, held talks with Bach in the Swiss city of Lausanne, IOC headquarters.

The meeting served to present the work interests between the two institutions and to strengthen collaboration in the sports and scientific spheres.

They also discussed important topics related to the preparation of their respective athletes for the Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, the media outlet added.

After finishing his stay at the IOC headquarters, Richards informed Jit that Bach received details about Cuba's current situation and the scenarios in which their athletes are preparing.

In addition, the leader of the largest of the Antilles exposed how the permanent hostility of the U.S. government towards the island by implementing a fierce economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba for more than 60 years, dents any possibility of rapprochement and bilateral cooperation.

So much so that sports exchange between the two nations is almost nil, but the majority of the U.S. population wishes to improve relations between our countries, said the head of the Cuban Olympic Committee.

According to Richards, the Cuban government's support to the sports movement continues and Cuba is preparing to face the fundamental challenges of the Olympic cycle to Paris 2024.
