Arlenis Sierra

Havana, July 26 (ACN) - Cuban cyclist Arlenis Sierra contested on Tuesday the third stage of the Tour de France, in a flat route over 133 km between Reims and Epernay.

Arlenis entered the first third of the table in the second fraction, won by the Dutch star Marian Vos, to overcome in 22 places her position in the overall individual, where she now appears at one minute and 18 seconds of the leader Marianne Vos.

The Cuban cycling star, who rides for Movistar of Spain, entered the second stage in 47th place, 1:02 minutes behind the winner, Marianne Vos, multiple Olympic and world champion in track, road and cyclo-cross.

The route was quite flat but chaotic, with crashes and other mishaps in the middle of the peloton, where the Cuban was once again vital in the collective work of Movistar Team in function of its leader, the Dutch Olympic and world champion Annemiek van Vleuten.

Within the blue formation, only the Spanish Sheila Gutiérrez suffered a fall, in a stage where Van Vleuten finished half a minute behind the dangerous breakaway of Niewiadoma, Persico and the new leader Mariam Vos.

The 2022 Women's Tour de France, which started Sunday in Paris with 24 multinational teams, now has 138 riders out of the 142 that started, in a challenge of 1,033 kilometers in eight days (July 24-31) through the plains and mountains of that European nation.
