Havana, September 3 (RHC)-- The Italian men's volleyball team defeated its Cuban counterpart 3-1 and qualified for the quarterfinals of the world championship of the discipline, which is taking place in Slovenia and Poland.
The Italians arrived at the crucial match undefeated and without losing any set in the match. Continuing with that dynamic, they took the opening segment 25-21.
The Caribbeans ignored this endorsement in the second period, returning the blow to their adversaries with an identical 25-21.
In a disputed third set, the disciples of Nicolás Vives took the worst part 26-24 and ended up losing the fourth and final set with a comfortable 25-18.
Italy dominated the statistics of the match in blocking 12-5 and in points from errors by their opponents 44-28. Cuba stood out in attacking 52-39 and service 3-2, according to the official website of the championship.
For the winners, the most outstanding players during the match were Yuri Romanò with 14 points and Daniele Lavia (11). The Caribbean had their strongholds in opposite Jesús Herrera(23) and center Roberlandi Simón(11).
Thus, the Italians secured a place among the best eight teams of the tournament. Meanwhile, the Cubans will be in the "consolation" round in search of their final place.
