Jasiel Rivero with 15 points in Euroleague basketball today
Havana, October 15 (RHC)-- Cuban Jasiel Rivero scored 15 points for Valencia Basket in the second competitive day of the Euroleague basketball tournament, the highest level tournament of that sport in the so-called Old Continent.
Rivero proved again that his great start of the season has not been a coincidence, but he could not prevent the 76-77 setback of the Valencians against the French team Asvel Lyon-Villeurbanne.
In the Fuente de San Luis Pavilion, known as La Fonteta, the player from Cuba made four baskets from close range, which together with a triple and four free throws allowed him to reach fifteen units, in a game in which he also grabbed six rebounds.
Other outstanding players for the home team were Chris Jones, with 13 points, as well as Josep Puerto and Jared Harper, both with 10, while for the visitors Nando de Colo (16) and Retin Obasohan (13) were outstanding, according to the official site of the tournament.
Also deserving special mention is the contribution of center Youssoupha Fall, who had a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds for the winners.
In that game, a few seconds before the end of the fourth period, and when it seemed that there would be overtime, the locals committed a foul and Jonah Mathews scored from the free throw line the winning point.
The French team dominated the first half of the game with a score of 42-38, and after the break the Spanish club won 21-10 and 17-15 in the third and fourth periods, respectively, but it was not enough to win the game.
With this result, Valencia Basket added its second defeat in a row in this strong tournament, while Asvel Lyon-Villeurbanne achieved its first success after losing 62-69 in its debut against the Italian team Olimpia Milano.
On the 6th, the Valencians lost 71-81 against Saski Baskonia, from Spain, in a duel in which Rivero was the top scorer of his team with 14 points.
