Judo master Ronaldo Veitía

Havana, October 18 (RHC)-- Legendary judo coach Ronaldo Veitía fulfilled his wish to return to Cuba to continue the recovery process, after several months in a hospital in Alicante, Spain.

The arrival of "Prof. Veitía" on Monday to Cuba did not go unnoticed and several media highlighted the return of the man who is considered the main architect of many of the island's glories in the tatamis of the world.

In its Twitter account, the Institute of Sports Medicine highlighted the return home of the "decorated coach" and pointed out that its specialists will closely follow the delicate situation of the Hero of Labor of the Republic of Cuba.

The entity also detailed that the master suffered a cardiovascular accident in the European nation, where he was taken care of by his son Ronaldo Veitía Jr. who also accompanied him on the inter-oceanic crossing.

Last Friday, the Cuban Sports Institute reported on the steps taken to make the trainer's wish to be in his homeland, with the people who admire him so much, come true.

At 74, Veitía is among the best coaches in the history of the discipline created by Japanese Jigoro Kano, after leading several athletes to the top in his role as head of the women's team.

Under his leadership were Olympic champions Odalys Revé, Driulis González, Sibelis Veranes, Legna Verdecia and Idalys Ortiz, as well as the equally successful Estela Rodríguez, Amarilys Savón, Daima Beltrán, Yurisleidy Lupetey, Yalennis Castillo, among others.
