Havana, November 7 (PL)-- Cuba will compete this month in the world youth boxing championship in Alicante, Spain, with the goal of conquering the title by countries in the male branch, said the head coach of the team, Santiago Suarez.

Prensa Latina took advantage of the preparation stay of the Cuban selection squad in the city of Tremblay-en-France, in the Paris Region, to talk to the coach and some of the nine fighters who will fight for medals in the tournament scheduled from November 14 to 26.

"It will be a difficult event, to which we will arrive with the objective of achieving supremacy among the boys, which we haven't achieved since 2016, and we think it could be achieved with three crowns," Suarez explained.

According to the head coach, Kazakhs, Uzbeks and Americans stand out among the team strength rivals, as well as individuals from other nations.

In the first Pan American Junior Games Cali Valle 2021, Cuba led the boxing medal count with four gold medals, one more than the United States.

Fighters Luis Frank Reynoso (80 kilograms) and Rodnnei Álvarez (86), both winners of the Cali Junior Games last year, also expressed their commitment.

"I will step into the ring in Spain with the goal of putting my country at the top of the podium, that is an immediate goal, then I aspire to join the national team and participate in the Olympic Games, said Reynoso.

The gold medal is also Álvarez's motivation for the upcoming event in Alicante, aware that great results are always expected from Cuban boxing.
