Havana, November 9 (PL)-- The Agricultores team, leader of the first Elite League of Cuban baseball, will seek today its 12th victory in the qualifying stage against the second classified, Ganaderos.
On the last day, the team made up of players from the provinces of Las Tunas and Granma beat Ganaderos 2-0 in 10 innings, supported by excellent pitching and timely offense.
A seven-strikeout attack and the work of four pitchers, Alejandro Meneses, Yasel Labrada, Miguel Paradelo and Alberto Pablo Civil, gave success to the team led by Carlos Martí.
The victory went to third reliever Civil (2-0), who in one chapter and one third allowed no runs or hits, struck out two batters and gave away one ticket.
Ganaderos' sophomore Yanieski Duardo (1-1) took the loss after accepting two hits and a run in one inning of work.
For the winners, left fielder Raico Santos hit 4-2, a double and drove in both runs, and for the losers, left fielder Rodolexis Moreno hit 4-2.
In the standings, Agricultores (11-2) increased its lead over Ganaderos (8-4), second, to 2.5 games.
Centrales, third in the championship (7-6), dropped to four games behind the leaders with a 2-3 loss to Cafetaleros on Tuesday, with a win by sophomore reliever Uberley Estévez (1-1), Yeudis Reyes' second save of the season and Noelvis Entenza's second loss.
For the winners, catcher Franklin Aballe (3-2, with a double), shortstop Santiago Torres (4-2, 1 RBI), center fielder Yoelquis Guibert (4-2, 1 run scored and 1 double) and third baseman Luis Ángel Sánchez (4-2, 1 home run).
In the other game of the day, Tabacaleros (6-8) beat bottom-placed Portuarios (2-12) 3-2, with a hit by Jonathan Carbó (1-1), the first save by Frank Luis Medina, a home run by left fielder Yaser Julio González, and a loss by Marcos Ortega (1-2).
